SONGS OF THE DAY: AFROSHOP, GOGOWÉ

AFROSHOP – LONG TIME AGO

AfroShop introduce themselves to the music scene with their debut single “Long Time Ago.” The singer cum producer duo, Chinar and Tesla, team up to bring a diverse combination of elements-from rich African sounds to convoluted urban music-to birth a rare Afro-fusion perspective.

On “Long Time Ago”, Chinar sings about affection for a woman who is already taken. He does this over an Afropop sound, cooked and delivered by Tesla.

The music is good enough for a debut track, it’s not so much different from the regular Nigerian love songs, but it’s laced with very soothing vocals.

Afroshop have shown us they’re ready, and with this, they just might be here to stay. We expect more music from them soon.

GOGOWÉ – GENTLE GIRL

Afro-fusion artiste, Gogowe, releases her fourth single of the year titled Gentle Girl. On this one, she takes a chip off Afrobeat legend – Fela Kuti’s 1973 song, Gentleman.

She warns her lover about not being an easygoing, cool headed woman on the Afrofused beat, as she sings “Ololufemi o, I no be gentle girl at all.”

It’s a surprise release to commemorate her birthday and is her word to women as she tries to crack the norm of women being seen as weak and gentle.

Check out Gentle Girl by Gogowe, let’s vibe and support girl power!
