NIGERIA’S GOLDEN BOY: SPIDER-MAN’S HERE TO SAVE THE DAY

2019 saw an inflow of new artistes in the Nigerian music industry. From Fireboy to Joeboy down to Oxlade, the newbies held the year down and don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. But one name seems to be holding it down both locally and internationally; it’s Mavin Records coolest kid on the block, Rema.

They say time waits for no man, well, Rema too. Divine Ikubor seemingly is Nigeria’s fastest growing artiste especially on the international scene. The 19years old wonder kid from Edo State, Nigeria got to limelight after his debut single “Dumebi” got the entire nation into their dancing shoes and got heads bopping too. He went on to release an EP titled Rema containing 4 songs including “Iron Man” which got featured on former US President, Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist.

Rema got eyes rolling and teeth gnashing when he was announced winner of the Next Rated award in the 2019 Headies Awards over four of his peers and one of the biggest names in the industry today, Zlatan Ibile. This caused a lot of arguments here and there but I think this was unnecessary because it was quite clear who deserved the award.

Rema at the time had three solid projects out and unarguably had the biggest song of 2019. He already got international recognition and was rumored to be getting signed by Drake’s OVO record label after “Rewind”, the third song off his third EP was said to have been produced by the record label producer, 1Mind. The teenager had a roll out of 12 songs in less than a year. He always seems to be a step or two ahead of his peers if you ask me.

The artiste is known for his unique fashion styles and also his freestyles, which birth his second EP titled “Rema Freestyle EP”. The Jonzing & Mavin Records superstar has gained solid recognition on the international stage, from being the cover of Fader magazine to performing at the NBA All-Star game.

Rema is undoubtedly talented and his versatility is what keeps him going, from afrobeats to pop and then trap, he would sweep you off your feet. The Bad Commando isn’t stopping anytime soon, he is the future of Nigeria’s pop music scene and is on the right path to greatness like his “sometimes sound-alike”, Wizkid.

He recently dropped two bangers titled Beamer and Rainbow. Do make sure to check them out.
