DMW Head and internationally recognized Nigerian artiste, Davido, releases the video of his hit track off his sophomore album, A Good Time. The music video, D&G, which is acronym for famous fashion house & designers – Dolce & Gabbana, is the artiste’s 5th visual release in the space of barely one year.
And as usual, the serial hit maker is expected to bag a lot from this video featuring US rising star and sensation, Summer Walker. But shockingly, this won’t be the story for the pop star as he’s announced that he’ll be donating all proceeds from the video to the ‘Dolce & Gabbana and Humanitas Together for Coronavirus Research fund.’
This is an act of goodwill from the artiste, especially in a time like this where the entire world is at war with a common enemy, COVID-19. This gesture is for Davido, a pretty personal one as he made known to the public a few weeks back, the case of his fiancée, Chioma, testing positive for the virus. Speaking to CNN upon the release of the video, he had these to say;
“I was on tour, she was in London with my son. When we all came back to Nigeria, we were, like, because we have travel history, I think it’s best we get tested. We had no symptoms. Nobody in the house had symptoms. Out of all 34 of us that got tested, she was the only one that came out positive, which was crazy to us.”
She has however recovered from the virus after being tested twice and coming out negative, the singer tweeted a few days back.
This could also be him paying homage to the fashion house for lending him the brand name to use on this song as this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen gestures towards the brand from various artistes, particularly in Nigeria. His colleague and constant comparison, Wizkid, also did a thing with the acclaimed brand as he walked the runway at one of their fashion shows in Milan about two years ago. This comes years after the release of his 2011 hit single, Don’t Dull, where he uses the brand name as a part of the song’s chorus. This could also be business, but I’m just saying…
This donation however, is one of the many from the artiste and his family since the pandemic began. They had made contributions to their state of origin and also their country Nigeria, prior to this. He is well known to be a philanthropist outside of his music, which makes him one of the most loved musicians in the country.
The video which is directed by Nigerian-born British director, Daps, expresses the artiste’s habit of having a lot of people around him; friends, dancers and of course, the vixen. It is aesthetically pleasing and features the ever stunning Summer Walker. For what it’s worth, the video surprisingly doesn’t feature any item with the brand name, D&G, engraved on it. But in the end, it’s a pretty good video, and a must watch. Whether you enjoy it or not, watch it to make your contributions to this substantial donation to the fight against the coronavirus.
